safety

Alpine Experience places the highest priority on mountain safety. Each guide is in permanent radio contact with each other as well as their base station.

Added to this they can call on immediate assistance through the Securité Vanoise radio network, responding to any emergency with helicopter back-up. Each skier is supplied with an avalanche transceiver and is trained in its use. Extra search and rescue courses are run by Henry and Andreas at the beginning of the week for those who have not had the opportunity to practice a Peeps search or need to brush up on their skills.

Avalanche victim

Henry and Andreas will be running two in depth search and rescue sessions per week as well as presenting 3 evening lectures per week. We are dedicated to safety and aim to have the best educated clientele in Europe. These sessions are a must for any serious off-piste skier. There are always two safety rucksacks within the off-piste groups containing snow shovels, probes and other necessary emergency equipment. Equally importantly, it is our job to instruct our skiers in the safe manner to move around and enjoy this snowy paradise.

This season Alpine Experience will also be promoting the use of the ABS airbag-backpacks. These backpacks have two airbags which, are deployed by pulling on a ripcord-type release handle. These airbags have proven to effectively pull the victim towards the surface in an avalanche, leaving a victim a much better chance of staying on, or near, the surface. All Alpine Experience guides will be using this system this winter, and Jean Sports will be making them available to our clients to rent, or to buy.
