- It's about time I made an effort to give you all some pre-season news
It’s about time I made an effort to give you all some pre-season news. We use to do an annual newsletter but children and other such distractions seem to have put an end to the letter, which was first introduced by Rob years ago.
Anyway, here we go…
I’ll give you the sad news first and let you know that Jan Davis died August 18th after a battle with cancer. Jan and Henley started skiing with Giles 20-years-or-so ago and have been with Alpine from the very beginning. Jan was an incredibly kind and caring person who brightened up every group she ever skied with, and she was a well-loved member of the Alpine ‘family’. She always had a smile on her face and her enthusiasm was infectious. Jan was always active and remained so right up to the last two days when she managed some walking and gardening. Henley said that she remained positive to the end and was at peace with herself. Jan will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
Giles’ wife Bridget has found happiness again and has re-married this summer, 20-years after her marriage to Giles. ( For anyone who doesn’t know Giles was a founding member of Alpine Experience and died of a brain tumour in 1995 ). Everyone at Alpine wishes Bridget and her two girls, Ghiselle and Isadora, and new husband Mark, all the best in the years to come. Bridget and Mark are now on honeymoon in Brazil. Nice one!
Andreas and Tansy are awaiting the birth of a little brother or sister for Ness, with the baby due at the end of October. Tansy is feeling great, Ness is terribly excited, and Andreas will be working like crazy this winter while Tansy is taking care of the baby. Besides working on their own home Andreas has been busy starting a building and property management business with an English friend this summer. Don’t hesitate if you need some work done or your place looked after and Andreas’ details are on the website.
Chris and Suzanne have done another season in Australia and are due to take their driving course for the mining trucks soon. Both are looking forward to returning to Val d’Isere sometime in early-December, so don’t fear those of you who thought you were losing Chris.
TJ has just finished a two-day-110-mile-bike-ride with his son Hamish. That bodes well for the upcoming season when TJ plans on skiing between 6 and 8 weeks in January and early-February. It will be great to have TJ back and it sounds like Pietro, Jean Marc and Olivier may also be around a little bit more this season. Henry is on good form and for those of you who don’t know, Thomas Quero Battani will be joining the team this winter. ( That’s quite a formidible crew if I say so myself. )
Keeps those bookings rolling in and we look forward to seeing you all soon.
And that’s about it for the moment, except ‘happy birthday to me’.
